Here is where all of this got started. I had suggeseted to a few friends that an interesting and fun long term investment would be a large hunk of Kentucky timberland that would be ready for harvest in about 30-35 years. After keeping our eyes open for a couple of years we found this 440 acre property of remote timberland. The main feature of this property was its size. It was like its own state park. The timber was selectively harvested in the past few years but will be ready for an additional harvest in another 35 years or so.
This land taught us a couple of things. First, we don't think we would have the heart to timber a property. Second, it was fun to hike and "discover" the amazing beauty that can be found on private lands. Third, this is some serious excercise. The typical elevation difference from the valley and the ridges on this property is about 400-500 feet.
Unfortunately, in order for us to continue to purchase the cool properties that we are finding this one had to be sold.
